#23

Ahhh! The last item. I have enjoyed the Catch23 experience. I learned about some new tools, and had fun exploring some of the ones I hadn't used before. The program was well-organized, and hopefully, I can apply some of these programs at work! Later, gator!

podcasts

I'll have to see if my husband has the software to listen to podcasts. Pretty cool stuff.

YouTube

Some of the TCU videos were fun. I enjoy viewing youtube videos every now and then. I thought I'd find a few whitewater runs. This first one is a solo canoe run on the Grand Canyon. Those waves are about 10-20 feet high (it doesn't look like it in the video, but keep in mind the canoe is about 11 feet long).

This second video has some friends of mine in it, and they are running some rivers I've run. Lenelda's daughter is also in the video. Even though all the boats will look like kayaks to you, one of them is actually a decked canoe.

google Maps (20)

Thought I'd see if I could get the actual photo to appear vs. a link

I like the google earth, but not enough to download it. I use Google Maps all the time. I started using those over Mapquest quite awhile back.

Google Docs (19)

I actually signed up for Google Docs awhile back. I ran into some technical difficulties with the program because I signed up with my work email address, but did not join the School group under that address name. It wouldn't actually let me share the document with my co-worker or vice-versa. :(

I've tried it again for the Catch-23. We'll see how it works out this time.

PBwiki (18)

Ouch. I did it, but it was painful. Mainly because the instructions were not completely clear (no offense, C23 team, but those instructions could use a few more steps). Basically, it wasn't clear to me that I needed to sign in to our C23 wiki BEFORE a 'new page' button would appear. As Lyle would say, "It's such a shame, cause you've been so good up till now."

I like the PBwiki tool, though. It could come in handy if I ever get a group of friends with common interests (he,he,he).

Wikis (17)

We currently use a wiki for reference questions, so this is nothing new to me. I think it is a useful tool. I was surprised by the WikiSource link. I don't know...having full text of books online for free somehow still surprises me. Not much of a selection on the site, though (not a surprise). I didn't spend much time there, but are people able to edit the books?
My first shot out of the gate, I found a phrase that did not pull up a wikipedia entry in the top 6 (wikipedia entry was #9 on the list): "whitewater canoeing" Leave it to me to have obscure interests.

Library Thing (16)

Time for true confessions. I do not read a lot. Even though I own a tremendous amount of books and think I will read them, I don't. So, I'm not sure how much I will actually use LibraryThing even though I think it is a neat application. I thought the tags for the banned book were interesting. Many of the tags really did not fit the book except perhaps on a personal level for someone. Auggh! Where is the authority control?! :) Actually, I'm not against tags, but I can see how they might prove ineffective in searching at times.

Technorati (thang 15)

First of all, I really liked the screencasts video that was presented. We should be using this technology for library tutorials.

On to Technorati... I am not a heavy blog reader. I occasionally read blogs in my subject area, but not very often. As a result, I don't think this technology is for me. When I clicked on the link of popular blogs, most of them were about technology. Seems to me that the technologically inclined are using technolgy to talk to each other about technology. The rest of us just go pull weeds in our yards. :)

Del.icio.us

I checked out Del.icio.us, and this is a site that I can definately use! My propensity for collecting websites is beginning to get out of control, and the computer at the ref desk keeps getting switched out which means my bookmarks keep getting deleted. I need a site that I can go to regardless of where I'm helping students to find (actually, to remember) potentially useful websites. I plan to sign up for this one and get started using it soon.

Flicker Mashups

I'm waayyyy behind in this program. I made a mashup. It looks like the dog is getting a cat swat. I'm sure my real cat would enjoy this cat fantasy photo. Here it is:
